Equipment

  • Deep fryer or heavy-duty pot
  • Piping bag with a large star tip
  • Cooking thermometer
  • Slotted spoon or tongs
  • Large mixing bowl

Ingredients

For the Batter:

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup whole milk or buttermilk

For Frying:

  • 4 cups vegetable or canola oil

Optional Toppings:

  • Powdered sugar
  • Cinnamon sugar
  • Chocolate sauce
  • Fruit compote

Instructions

Prepare the Batter:

  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt.
  • Add eggs and milk gradually while stirring until you achieve a pancake-like batter consistency.

Heat the Oil:

  • Pour oil into a deep fryer or heavy pot and heat to 375°F (190°C). Use a thermometer for accuracy.

Pipe the Fries:

  • Transfer the batter into a piping bag fitted with a large star tip. Pipe long, thin strips of batter directly into the hot oil.

Fry to Perfection:

  • Fry each batch for 2–3 minutes or until golden brown. Avoid overcrowding the oil.
  • Use a slotted spoon or tongs to remove the fries and place them on a paper towel to drain excess oil.

Add Toppings:

  • Dust fries with powdered sugar, cinnamon sugar, or drizzle with chocolate sauce. Get creative with fruit compotes or sprinkles!

Serve:

  • Enjoy warm with your choice of dipping sauces or as is for a sweet treat.

Notes

  • Keep the oil temperature consistent to avoid soggy or burnt fries.
  • Batter can be adjusted with a splash of milk if it feels too thick.
  • For leftover fries, store in an airtight container and reheat in the oven or air fryer for crispiness.
